Mrs. Lucy Mapes Oliver was born near Charlesville, Canada, September 17, 1830 and died in Narka, Kans., May 23, 1928 at the age of 97 years 8 months and 6 days.
She moved with her parents to Henry County, Ill., in 1845 and was married to James Oliver in 1852, to this union was born three children: W. D. Oliver of Kewanee, Ill., Mrs. Permella Phillips of Cheney, Wash., deceased and G. C. Oliver of Belleville, Kans.
She leaves to mourn her loss, one brother and sister, two sons and sixteen grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.
Her husband, James Oliver was a veteran of the Civil War and died in Memphis, Tenn., in 1863. He was a member of the 124th regiment, company F. Illinois volunteers.
She came to Kansas and homesteaded in 1869 and moved here with her three children in 1870. She lived on her homestead for 33 years, then moved to Narka, Kan., where she lived until she came to Belleville to live with her son G. C. Oliver in 1914.
She united with the Christian church in her early life and was a faithful member to the end.
