ALEXANDRIA--Martha E. Malicoat, 91, Alexandria, died Dec. 21, 2003, at Alexandria Care Center in Alexandria after an extended illness.
She was born June 30, 1912 in Alexandria, the daughter of Charles Baker and Blanche E. (Disbennet) Baker, and resided in Alexandria all of her lifetime. Martha attended Alexandria schools.
She attended Calvary Community Church of Alexandria. Martha was devoted to her family. She always made herself available to be in a position to care for those in need, regardless of what the need was. She was best known for her cooking and baking abilities. Many family members, friends and neighbors have benefited from the "gifts" of her kitchen. Martha was a kind and gentle spirit whose warm smile will be sadly missed but fondly remembered.
Survivors include daughter, Pat (Jack) Horn of Akron, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Jean Malicoat of Alexandria; five grandchildren, Tim (Debbie) Horn, Bart (Sheila) Malicoat, all of Alexandria, Dan (Melody) Horn of Tipton, Julie (Mike) Smith of Akron, and Denise (Joe) Kean of Sullivan; 11 great-grandchildren, Jason Horn, Christina Young, Madira Horn, Miriah Horn, Lindsay Smith, Brandon Dotson, Beth Kean, Joey Kean, Jake Kean, and Scott and Asia Malicoat; five great-great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Sam Malicoat, in 1998; her husband of 71 years, Charles "Bud" Malicoat, in 2001; six brothers; and two sisters.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with the Rev. Chester Owens officiating. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery in Yorktown. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
