OREM-Doris Marian Malan Orton, (aka) Marian D., is thrilled that on Friday, May 2, 2008, she was finally allowed to graduate and join her Sweetheart Glen Lee. She was 86 years old and resided at 53 East 530 South in Orem, Utah at the time of her death. We know it was a great reunion, even if Dad did have some explaining to do about why he got to go first, and she had to endure 9 years without him.
Her last mortal days were spent with her loving family holding her hands and witnessing her strength, courage and patience. Family meant everything to her. Most of all she was proud of, interested in, and enjoyed all her children and grandchildren.
She handpicked birthday and Christmas cards, always signing with sweet words in her beautiful handwriting, and adding butterfly stickers. She taught us to be grateful and kind, often firmly reminding us "if you can't say somthin' nice then don't say nothin' at all." When we misbehaved, she made us sing in unison "Love at Home" or "Count Your Many Blessings".
Known for her butterfly kisses, she was not only a Mother and Grandmother to her own, but to many others whom she loved and treated as her own. While she had a terrible fear of public speaking, she was a beloved teacher and influenced many, especially during their youth.
"Grandma Chee Chee" was and is an amazing woman; strong willed, loving, childlike, creative, curious, and artistic. She loved to see beautiful things and take beautiful pictures, she loved to draw, and received awards for her artistry and calligraphy, she enjoyed Glenn Miller music and played the piano. She loved the word "serendipity". She was curious and intelligent, loved the World Book Encyclopedias, searched maps and was always interested in how things "worked", and had her own tools for home repairs.
She was a bit of a perfectionist, and we "kid you not!". She lived in beauty, order, and cleanliness which greatly aided her through her life nearly at the Ogden Standard Examiner, as a Mother, homemaker, in book keeping and secretarial skills in Dad's business, and in her church callings.
Marian was the first child of two, born 17 April, 1922, to Hazel Drake and Delbert Horace Malan of Ogden Utah. She is survived by her baby brother Delbert D. (Danny) Malan, and beloved sister in law Mira Sevy (The General) Malan.
Marian and Glen were married 04 February, 1942, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They have 4 children, Linda Lee (Gary) Olson, Michael Kent Orton, Becky Ann (Dennis) Hepler, and Cindy Lou (A. LeGrand "Buddy") Richards. Beloved "Grandma Chee Chee" is also survived by 17 Grandchildren, 26 Great-Grandchildren (and 2 in the oven). They raised their family in Ogden, Utah and Menlo Park, California.
We are so grateful to have been raised by loyal and choice parents who lovingly taught us the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ, by word and by example.
Please be with us to honor and celebrate her life at either or both of two locations: Memorial Services will be held on FRIDAY, May 9, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Stonewood 5th LDS Ward Chapel located at 665 South 200 West in OREM, UT.
