Bernice Brinkerhoff Malan succumbed to her fight with breast cancer on June 7, 2010 at the Kolob Care and Rehabilitation Center where she has been residing for the past 6 years. Bernice was born in Glendale, Utah on April 30, 1920 to Louisa Anderson and Alonzo Riley Brinkerhoff. She married Frank Joseph Malan in St. George, Utah in 1940. Bernice attended Cosmetology school in Boise, Idaho while Frank served in the Navy, stationed in the South Pacific during WWII. After Frank returned from his military service, they lived in Ogden, Utah where Frank worked for the railroad for the next 42 years.
Bernice comes from a family of 14 children and is the last surviving child. She is survived by her three children: Ernest Francis (Frank) Malan II, Max Riley Malan, and Patti Ann Malan; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Ogden City Cemetery in Ogden, Utah where Bernice will be buried beside her husband who preceded her in death in 1990.
The family expresses special thanks to the wonderful caregivers of Senior Caregivers, Zions Way Hospice, Kolob Care Center, and the many family members and friends who were so kind and caring during the last years of Bernice's life.
