Joann was born Jan. 6, 1922, to William and Iva (Dilts) Major in Anderson, graduating from Anderson High School in 1940.
On Aug. 6, 1940, she married her child sweetheart at the First Nazarene Church by the late Fred Thomas where they both were lifetime members.
She worked at the manager of Madison County Federal Credit Union and retired in 1983 as treasurer manager. After retirement, she volunteered for several years at Hospice. She enjoyed volunteering and helping people.
The family wants to thank Dr. James Ong for his loving and compassionate care for their father and mother.
She is survived by her daughter, Candace Elaine Stebbins; sons, Douglas William Allen and George Wesley "Wes" Allen Jr.; sister, Lorraine Reeves Maines; grandson, Spencer W. Allen; and nephew, Jeffrey A. Reeves (Nim) and family of Kingsport, Tenn.; and cousin, Betty McClintick of Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Allen after 70 years passed away March 12, 2011; her in-laws, Frank and Lena Allen; brother-in-law, Robert Allen in 1931; special brother-in-law, George Reeves; and special friends, Darrel and Katherine Reel, Eileen Hexamer, Martha Girton; and her Westie terrier, Mike and Millie.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Pastors Gary Cable and Gary Klinger officiating. She will be laid to rest by her beloved husband in East Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
