James attended school in Barberton, Ohio and graduated in 1954. He then attended college at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio. He married Ethel Elaine Lanham on Dec. 31, 1960 in Barberton, Ohio. He entered the United States Army on June 28, 1962 at Fort Benning, Georgia. He served in the military for 14 years, receiving many awards and honors, including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Ranger Tap, Parachute Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Cross of Gallantry W/GS, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/palms, Staff Service Medal, 1st Class, Indonesian Parachute Badge, Jungle Warfare Expertise Medal and Air borne Medal. He retired with the rank of Major. He was an amateur radio operator and was a Pedigree Dog Trainer. He also retired from the McAlester Army Ammunition Depot. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Special Forces Association, Amateur Radio Association and the American Legion. He was a resident of Indianola and passed away at a Tulsa hospital at the age of 62. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Indianola; two sons, Gene and Beth Maisano, Verona, Italy, and Andy "Bud" Maisano, Carrollton, TX; a daughter, Nancy and husband Doug Rings, Highland Village, TX; a brother, Frank Maisano; grandchildren, Thomas Maisano and Joseph and Katie Rings; and sister in law, Gail Maisano of McAlester. He was preceded in death by his father.
