WHITEHALL, N.Y. - Alice Austin, 91, a former resident of Sager's Nursing Home in Fair Haven, Vt., died Feb. 3, 2002, at Indian River Rehabilitation and Health Center in Granville.

She was born Jan. 25, 1911, in Whitehall, the daughter of Francis and Maude (Kana) Rivette.

She had been employed as a cashier at the Grand Union and Chase's Market in Whitehall.

Mrs. Austin enjoyed cooking, baking and crocheting.

Survivors include four daughters, Marion Ames of Whitehall and Dunedin, Fla., Marge Lance of Lake Elsinore, Calif., Kathleen Blanchard and Connie Trevellyan, both of Whitehall; two sons, Michael Mahar of New Platz and John Austin of Whitehall; a brother, Wilbur Rivette of Whitehall; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Edward Mahar in 1944; her second husband, Frank Austin in 1981; two brothers, Walter Rivette and Clarence Rivette; two sisters, Justina McCabe and Agnes Rivette; and a grandson.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Church in Whitehall with the Rev. William A. Gorman, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Cambridge.

Family and friends are invited to the home of Connie and Al Trevellyan, 7 Boardman St., Whitehall, for a time of fellowship and refreshments following the funeral Mass.

Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Jillson Funeral Home in Whitehall.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Skenesborough EMS, P.O. Box 333, Whitehall, 12887, the Skenesborough First Responders, P.O. Box 338, Whitehall, 12887, or the Slate Valley Continuous Care Center, Fair Haven, Vt., 05743.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Jillson Funeral Home.
