Catherine Maguire Gray, 86, formerly of Glenolden, a Bell Telephone retiree, died Jan. 5 at Little Flower Manor in Darby following a long illness.
Born in Southwest Philadelphia, she attended South Philadelphia High School for Girls. A Glenolden resident for 47 years, Mrs. Gray resided in Port Charlotte, Fla., with her husband following her retirement in 1984 until relocating to Little Flower Manor in 2004.
Starting her career at Bell Telephone Co. in 1954 as a telephone operator, she retired from the company 30 years later after holding a position in human resources.
Devoted to her family and home, Mrs. Gray enjoyed cooking and was known in her neighborhood for her love of her backyard swimming pool. Despite her battle with multiple sclerosis, she took great pride and credit in teaching most of her grandchildren how to swim.
She was a long time parishioner of St. George Church in Glenolden.
Her husband, Thomas Gray, died in December 2007. She was the daughter of the late Harry Maguire and Anna Sullivan and was predeceased by all 11 of her siblings.
Survivors: Son, Thomas Gray of Hillsborough N.C.; daughters, Catherine Carroll of Wallingford and Geraldine Thrasher of Ridley Park; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Service: 10 a.m. Friday Little Flower Manor Chapel, Springfield Road, Darby.
Visitation: 9 a.m. Friday at the chapel.
Burial: SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple.
Donations: Little Flower Manor Memorial Fund, 1201 Springfield Road, Darby, PA 19023.
Arrangements: Cavanagh Family Funeral Home, Norwood.
