Venita Emily Bettinger, 95, was born in Carnegie, Oklahoma on December 18, 1909, to Thomas Dewitt and Margie Maguire. She passed away on November 18, 2005, in Oklahoma City. A native Oklahoman, she was one of four children. She graduated from Hydro High School, where she played on the basketball team. Venita met her husband while in line to enroll at Hills Business College. She married at the age of 17 after a three-week courtship. She enjoyed golf and playing bridge and was a member of Eastern Star. She also served as sponsor for Rainbow Girls. Venita was a successful business woman, owning and operating a variety store in Oklahoma City's Capitol Hill area. She was an enthusiastic OSU fan and volunteered for the Red Cross. Venita was a youth group sponsor at Central Presbyterian Church and spent many tireless years cooking and working in the Mobile Meals program. She was a very special and very unique mother, grandmother, and Christian woman.
Her husband, Jacob Owen Bettinger, preceded her in death in 1981. Venita is survived by her daughter, Venita Springfield and her husband Tom; grandchildren, Tom and Chris Springfield; great grandchildren, Sydney and Jacob; and two nephews, Joe and Pat Maguire. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 21, 2005, at the Hahn-Cook/Street and Draper Chapel. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, Oklahoma City.
