The Eagle Lake Highlight, May 31, 2001:

Fay Magill Baumgart, 98, of New Ulm, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2001. Born September 10, 1902 in Florence, Texas, she was the daughter of M.B. and Margaret Magill. Later in life, she moved to Georgetown.

A graduate of Southwestern University in 1923, she moved to Brenham where she taught school. Later, she taught in Frelsburg and was a substitute at New Ulm.

She was a real Grand Daughter of the Shropshire-Upton Chapter #361 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, a member of the Industry Lioness Club, past active member of the New Ulm Parent Teachers Association, a member of St. John's Episcopal Church of Columbus, and the St. John's Altar Guild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 47 years, Ernest H. Baumgart Sr. (1973); and two sisters, Merle Magill and Louise Newberry.

Survivors include a son, Ernest H. Baumgart Jr. and wife, Elrose; grandchildren, Susan Margaret and and husband, John Glithero, all of Columbus, Sandra Fay and husband, Bryan Ottmers, of Boerne, Ernest H. Baumgart III of San Antonio, and Henry Todd Baumgart of Dallas; two great-grandchildren, Jillian Lee Glithero and Caroline Lee Glithero of Columbus; three nephews, Allan Newberry Jr. of Dallas, Fred Ruland Jr. of Katy, and Norman Baumgart of Bay City.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 25, from St. John's Episcopal Church in Columbus, with Rev. Joseph Spitler officiating. Interment followed in the New Ulm Cemetery. Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Ernest H. Baumgart III, Henry Todd Baumgart, John Glithero, Bryan Ottmers, Lew Ellyn Gross, and Leander Reichle Jr.

The family requests memorials be made to St. John's Episcopal Church in Columbus or a charity of your choice.
