Nicolina Jensen went by the nickname Lina (pronounced Leenuh). Her parents were Christian Jensen and Catherine Jensen from Sindal, Nordjylland, Denmark. Nicolina had a twin sister named Ottomine "Mine." They were both born on 10 Feb 1876 in Hjørring, Nordjylland, Denmark. She had another sister named Jensine "Sine" Jensen b. 2 Mar 1862 in Sindal, Vendsyssel, Denmark.

Sine immigrated to America in 1888 and married Hans Johnsen in Ringsted, Iowa. Lina immigrated to America in 1896 and married Hans Madsen on 14 July 1899 in Denmark Township, Emmet County, Iowa. Hans Madsen and Hans Johnsen both had farms in section 14 of Denmark Township near Ringsted, Iowa. Hans and Nicoline "Lina" Madsen had 10 children all born in Ringsted, Denmark Township, Emmet County, Iowa: They all have the last name of Madsen: Paul Chris; Laurence "Herman"; William "Bill"; Sophie; Marie; Erna; Carl; Eleanora Anna; Myrtle; and Rose.

After Hans died in 1941, Lina moved to Gruver, Emmet County, Iowa. She died there in 1951. She is buried at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Ringsted, Iowa. This is located in section 14 of Denmark Township where she and her husband once owned the land. Her grandson Donald Heerdt now owns the land.
