Helen Marie Maddy Helms, 94 of Hinton went to Heaven on Sunday November 3, 2013.

Born February 28, 1919 at War Ridge, Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late Lemuel Kenna and Lou Esta Shumate Maddy.

Helen was a graduate of Talcott High School, class of 1938, and the French Beauty School in Bluefield, WV. She was an active member of Bellepoint Baptist Church in Hinton as long as her health permitted, having been a former Sunday school teacher. She was also known for always being a witness for the Lord. She was also a former president of the PTA at Bellepoint Elementary School. Helen was renowned for her lovely flowers and her many hand-crafted quilts she made and gave to others.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Julian Helms; two sisters, Mary Grove and Blanche Thompson; three brothers, Woodrow, Frank and Leonard Maddy and son-in-law, Ken Holland.

Helen is survived by a loving family which includes daughters, Sharon (Charlie) Gilkerson, Nancy Holland, Martha (Ron) Spangler and Sara Helms. Son, Dan (Vicky) Helms. One sister, Clara Pack. She is also survived by grandchildren, Tim Holland, Greg Gilkerson, Julie Laury, Ronnie Spangler, Mike Spangler, Jessica Williams and Benjamin Helms. Sixteen great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday November 6, 2013 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastors Butch Honaker and Chris Price officiating. Interment will follow in Greenbrier Burial Park in Hinton. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations of sympathy be made to Bellepoint Baptist Church Youth Fund or Hospice of Southern West Virginia, PO Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802-1472.
