Nancy Lee Maddox Carrington, 80, of Lynchburg, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009. She was the beloved wife of John Watkins Carrington. She was born Nov. 9, 1928, in Lynchburg. She was the daughter of Samuel Clyde Maddox Sr. and Katherine Anderson Maddox and was predeceased by her brother, Dr. Samuel Clyde Maddox Jr.
Nancy Lee graduated from Longwood College. She taught in the Martinsville and Lynchburg City schools for 28 years. She taught at Peakland Elementary and retired from Bedford Hills Elementary. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and The Women's Club of Lynchburg.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Nelson (CeeCee) Petruncio, and her husband, Michael; her sister, Katherine (Kitty) Maddox Thomas; nieces, Mildred (Andee) Maddox Barbee, Sarah Payne Maddox Wilson (Wythe) and Elizabeth (Betsy) Thomas Flowers (Jack); nephews, Samuel Clyde Maddox III (Kathy) and Stuart Lee Thomas (Aida); and two great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Sept. 15, 2009, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A graveside funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at Spring Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Todd Vie presiding.
