He is survived by his wife, Linda Chamblee Maddox; a son, Karl Maddox and wife, Kelli, of Columbia; daughter, Laure Howell and husband, Greg, of Blythewood; sister, Frankie Squires, of Conway; mother-in-law, Azilee B Chamblee, of Lexington; grandchildren, Wilson, Ryan, and Claire Maddox; a number of nieces and nephews.
Born January 21, 1939, in Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late William Bailey Maddox and Annie Laura (Breazeale) Maddox. Jim was a graduate of Newberry College and was a past president of the Kawanis Club in Anderson, was an active member of Central Presbyterian Church where he served as superintendent of the Sunday School, Sunday school teacher, deacon, and elder. In 1989, they moved to Laurinburg where he served as plant manager of Springs Industry. He was an active member of Laurinburg Presbyterian Church where he served as elder, past president of The Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of The United Way, a trustee for Scotland Memorial Hospital, and served on the board of the Southern Textiles Association.
Services will be 1:00 pm Thursday at Laurinburg Presbyterian Church Officiated by the Rev Dr. Neal Carter and Rev Elizabeth Foster. Burial will be Friday 1:00 pm at Old Silver Brook Cemetery in Anderson, SC.
Memorials may be made to Laurinburg Presbyterian Church, 600 W Church St, Laurinburg, NC 28352. Visitation will be 2-6 pm Wednesday at his residence and following the funeral in the church fellowship.
