Sally Makin, 59, died peacefully at her home on 2-4-2008 agter a long illness. Her courageous spirit has been an inspiration to both family and friends.
Mackin dedicated her professional life to assertively addressing the needs of young people. She retired from Jefferson Co Public Schools as principal of Westport Middle School. Previously, she provided leadership not only as a teacher but also as Dean at Lassiter Middle School and as a coach for Louisville Male High School's girls' basketball team, Shawnee High School's swimming team and Shawnee High School's vollyball team. External to her JCPS endeavors, she developed a highly sucessful swimming program for the youth in her hometown of Springfield and later worked administratively for the Louisville Metro Parks; swimming program. The effects of her concern and gentle care for the uniqueness of each individual child will long survive her death and all the lives she touched with her humanitarian gestures will be fuller for years to come.
She is survived by her mother-Barbara Edelen Makin, seven siblings - Michael Mackin, Anne Talley (Dan Paisley), Barbara Makin, Thomas Makin, George Makin, Mary Ritchie (Payton) and John Makin (Stephanie); one nephew Berkely Riley and one Niece Tevecca Talley, aunt and uncle Sally and Joe Yagel; and life companion Connie McFarland.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 8th at St Dominic's Catholic Church in Springfield, with burial in St Dominic's Cemetery.
