A respected missile specialist, he also worked at Hercules Aerospace. Leaving Clearfield in 1962, Dean and Verda moved to Bountiful where they have resided since. Dean was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a faithful High Priest. He served as an ordinance worker and supervisor in the Salt Lake Temple for 10 years. Dean and Verda also served two missions in Palmyra, New York. Dean was an avid hunter and fisherman and skillfully assembled dozens of custom fishing rods. Many family and friends are now the proud owners of handmade rods that bear his name. Numerous fish are also now more comfortable that he is no longer walking the banks of Utah and Wyoming streams. Another of his loves was gardening. He spent many hours tending to his exceptional roses and his raspberries, strawberries and tomatoes. Friends, neighbors and family were often the recipients of gifts of flowers, berries and tomatoes.
Dean is survived by his wife of 72 years; two sons, Larry Dean Macfarlane (Nancy), Orem; Michael C. Macfarlane (Judy), Kaysville; one brother, Clark Macfarlane, Clearfield; one sister, Mary MacDonald, Cedar City; 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grand-children.
