BLACKIE, Hilda Mae - It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Hilda Mae (MacMillan) Blackie, on May 11, 2005, in her 90th year in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Meadowville, and later years Pictou. Born on Pictou Island, she was a daughter of the late William and Annie Jane (MacLean) MacMillan. She was a member of Scotsburn United Church. Hilda will be remembered for her kindness. She was loved by all, and always thought of others before herself. Hilda was a peaceful person who inspired others with her strength, faith, and dignity, and faced hardship with grace. Hilda is survived by her husband of 65 years, James Lawrence Blackie of Glen Haven Manor. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Janet (Ted) Fraser, Thorburn; son, Blaine (Sonjya) Blackie, Halifax; daughters, Eileen (Carl) Boudreau, New Glasgow; Donna Blackie (Peter), New Glasgow. She was beloved Nan to Shan (Sandy) MacLeod, Stellarton; Lori (John) Taylor, New Glasgow; Travis (Laura) Fraser, Calgary; Jason Blackie, Halifax; Douglas Blackie, Halifax; Michelle (Andrew) Ianiro, Chicago; and great-grandmother to Shelley Mae MacLeod, Stellarton; Jordan Blackie, Halifax. She is also survived by sisters, Rita Quinn, Winnipeg; Verna Rankin, Pictou; Nina (Fraser) Matheson, Quebec; Ethel MacMillan, Pictou. She was predeceased by brothers, John, Arnold, Charles, Lorne; a sister and brother in infancy. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Scotsburn United Church, Rev. Michael Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow.
