William E. MacKenzie
William E. MacKenzie WALTHAM Deacon William E. MacKenzie of Waltham, died unexpectedly late Wednesday evening, Jan. 21, 2009, at Saint Elizabeth's Caritas Hospital in Brighton. He was 66. Born on June 28, 1942, in Waltham, son of Catherine (Zino) MacKenzie of Waltham and the late William M. MacKenzie, Bill was a lifelong resident. He attended St. Charles School in Waltham and Saint John's XXIII Seminary in Weston and later served with the Massachusetts Army National Guard. Bill served as deacon with Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church on Trapelo Road in Waltham since 1996. He was employed as an instrumentation technician for the Polaroid Corporation in Waltham for 35 years. He was a dedicated professional assistant working as a doorman and hearse driver for Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapels in Waltham and Belmont for the past five years. Bill presided as deacon over numerous services for bereaved families throughout MetroWest and Boston. He cared deeply for the bereaved families he helped serve. Bill will truly be missed by those he helped serve and those he served with. In his spare time, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Elaine (Murphy) MacKenzie; his children, Debbie LeBlanc and her husband, David, of Marlborough, William M. MacKenzie and his wife, Tina, of Harrisburg, Pa., Stephen MacKenzie and his wife, Eileen, of Waltham and Colleen Weatherall and her husband, Jeremy, of Marlborough; his brothers, John MacKenzie of Waltham and Claude MacKenzie and his wife, Janet, of Downingtown, Pa.; his brother-in-law, Charles Tirone of Waltham; and his cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Megan, Casey, Kayla, Jason, Liam and Aileigh. In addition, he is survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was the brother-in-law of the late Frances MacKenzie and Helena Tirone. Funeral services will be held from Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody St., Waltham (brascofuneralhome.com), Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 8:30 a.m., with a Mass of Christian burial in celebration of Deacon Bill's life at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery in Waltham. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home Monday, Jan. 26, from 4 to 8 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
