Birth: Jul. 6, 1861
Virginia, USA
Death: Jan. 23, 1931
Shelby County
Tennessee, USA

Rachel Levisa Lyon-Burton married William Perry Burton 6 Apr 1879 in Obion, TN Her typed death certificate lists her parents as W. Lyon of VA and Virginia L. of VA. The hand written death certificate lists her parents as W. Lyon of VA and Rachel L Lyon of VA. The informant gave incorrect info on the death certificate. Obviously he was upset and gave the information using his own parents first names and kept Lyon as the last name. ** DNA PROVES Rachel's parents were Landon C Lyon b. 1838 son of Michael Mason Lyon and Mary Polly Danley; and Jane Seale b. 1842 daughter of Fielding Seale and Rachael Napier.** In the 1880 census, Landon C Lyon and his new wife are living right next door to Rachel and William Burton. This has always made me think Landon was Rachel's father, but the conflicting death certificates made me question myself. Thank Goodness for DNA!!! Mystery solved!!
Of this union there were 9 children, they are Ocie (O.B.), Mary D. (Molly), Ida Mae, Ona (Onie), Harry Hartry Sr., Lemmie, Robert L., Lennie Lou, and Laura.
Mrs. Rachel Levisa Burton died at the Methodist hospital in Memphis, Friday, January 23, 1931. She was born July 6, 1861. She was married to William P. Burton in **May 1878.
Mrs. Burton in her early life united with the Baptist church, but in 1881, she obeyed the gospel under the teachings of the late Bro. John R. Williams and from that time until her death she lived a consistent Christian life. For many years she has been a studious reader of the Gospel Advocate.
Mrs. Burton was a kind indulgent wife, a devoted mother, and a good neighbor. She was the mother of twelve children, four of which had preceded the mother to their reward.
She leaves to mourn, besides her husband, a host of friends and relatives, but we all console ourselves with that Blessed Assurance that when her unfettered soul wings its way to that Great White Throne to receive judgment for the deeds done while here in the body, it will hear the welcome applaudit: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant". ** Rachel's wedding date is incorrect as well, correct date is 6 Apr 1879 in Obion County, Tennessee.
