Janice Maye Lybyer, 74, daughter of Albert Howe and Donnie Edith Ring Lybyer, was born Feb. 26, 1929, near Dykes. She died March 14, 2003, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.
She grew up on the family farm at Dykes and attended Ragsdale country school. She graduated from Houston High School in 1947. After high school, she attended Kansas City Secretarial School, graduating in 1948. She was a medical secretary in St. Louis for several years before starting a career with the Department of State Foreign Service. She served numerous tours of duty in England, Vietnam, Africa, Switzerland, Germany and Washington, D.C. She retired in 1983 after 26 years of service to care for her ailing mother.
She became a Christian at an early age and was a member of the Church of Christ in Cabool. She was active at the Houston Senior Center.
Her favorite activities were knitting, cooking and visiting with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Clyde E. and Floyd Rollin.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
Services were March 18 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Ken Knox officiating. Burial was in the Dykes Cemetery.
