Katherine M. Lutter
Aug. 3, 1917 - Aug. 29, 2011
Katherine Marie Keresey Lutter was born in Danbury, Conn., on Aug. 3, 1917. She graduated Danbury High School in 1934, graduated Albertus Magnus College in New Haven in 1938 with a degree in economics and modern languages, and spent a year abroad at the University of Rome, Italy. She followed that with three years of graduate work at NYU.

In 1939 Miss Keresey became a teacher of Italian at Ridgefield High School, and later taught English at Danbury High School. She became a member of the Civil Air Patrol in 1940 and joined the U.S. Navy WAVES program in 1944 as an Ensign and Lieutenant JG. After the war, she resumed her position at Danbury High school until 1954, when she married Henry Vincent Lutter of NYC and raised a family. She worked throughout her years as a homemaker and retired as Assistant Town Clerk in New Canaan, Conn., at the age of 80. She then moved to Cameron Park, where she passed away in the comfort of her home at Eskaton Lodge on Aug. 29, 2011.

Katherine was an avid reader and traveler, always interested in the wider world, and valued her family and friendships, independent ideas and civil debate. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer Lutter Brooks; her sons, Joseph Lutter and Henry V. Lutter, Jr. in 1983; and by her husband, Henry, in 1987. She is survived by her son, John V. Lutter and his wife, Lori, of Wilton, Conn.; and her daughter, Jane Layton and her husband, Dan, of Cameron Park. She was a devoted grandmother to Katie Brooks Volk of West Linn, Ore., Jenna Layton of Sitka, Alaska, Danielle Layton of Portland, Maine, and Lindsey Lutter and Henry J. Lutter of Wilton, Conn. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, of whom she was extremely fond.

Services will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, at Faith Episcopal Church in Cameron Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Outreach of El Dorado County at P.O. Box 451, Shingle Springs, CA 95682.
