Wanda Lunsford Courtney, 70 of Spencer passed away at her home on Thursday, August 22, 2013.
She was born on February 6, 1943 in Black Mountain, North Carolina to the late John and Mary Hagan Lunsford. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Gilbert Steven Lunsford; her husband, Danny Monroe Courtney, Jr. and her first born, Danette Renee Courtney.
She was a 1961 graduate of Charles D. Owen High School in Swannanoa, North Carolina and also attended Southeastern Beauty College in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her career consisted of 20 years in the banking industry and 9 years of administrative work at Fieldcrest Cannon in Fieldale where she retired.
She was a devoted member, pianist and treasurer of Meadow United Methodist Church in Spencer, for 35 years. She also was pianist at Mt. Zion Methodist Church for 7 years and a member of Spencer Penn Centre.
She loved her church families, her community, friends and her children. Wanda always went to great lengths to help others and was very active in her community after retiring.
Surviving are her loving children Danny Monroe Courtney III, of Martinsville and Angela Michelle Courtney, of Charlotte, NC.
The funeral service will be held Monday, August 26, 2013 at 2:00 PM at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville with Pastor Mark Collins and the Rev. Keith Vernon officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway.
