Pierson Progress, 5 December 1940, page 1: Mrs. Elizabeth J. Fair, 87, died Friday evening, November 29, 1940, in her home, 4315 Orleans Avenue in Sioux City, two hours after suffering a heart attack. Born August 17, 1853, at Ashville in County Caren, Ireland, Mrs. Fair came to the United States in 1882. After living at Des Moines a year she moved to Ida Grove and there married William Fair. The couple lived on a farm east of Pierson until 1890 when they moved to San Jose, California. They returned from California two years later and lived on a farm north of Pierson twelve years. Then because of the husband's health, the Fairs returned to Ireland where he died November 11, 1909. She returned to this country and lived in Sioux City from 1911 to 1926 and from 1935 until her death. During the ten-year interval, Mrs. Fair lived with her daughter Maude in Chicago. She was a member of Grace Methodist church. Survivors include two sons, Andrew A. Fair of Chicago and William H. Fair of Sioux City, two sisters, Mrs. Harriet Dalgetty of Ida Grove and Mrs. A.M. Irwin of Chicago, two brothers, John Lundy of Vancouver, B.C., Canada and Jason Lundy of Ida Grove, and three grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Maude Bovee, died in Sioux City last April 1st. The body was brought to Pierson and interred in the family lot in the Good Hope Cemetery beside her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lundy, very early newcomers here. Previous to coming here, Mrs. Fair's father taught school in Ireland for 42 years. Funeral services were held from the Grace Methodist church in Sioux City with Rev. Roy Cox of Spirit Lake officiating.
