Marilyn Frances (Lund) Brink, 83, of Standish passed away peacefully at her daughter's home after a long illness.
She was born in Falmouth on March 9, 1927, the only child of Mildred Merrill Lund and Edgar Peter Lund.
Marilyn attended Falmouth schools graduating in 1945. She loved to play basketball and tennis but dancing (mostly jitterbugging) was her passion. After school she worked at the Toy Counter at W. T. Grants, at Perry's Market and as a payroll clerk at Portland City Hall. Her favorite job though, was as a florist. It remained her joy throughout life to create beautiful bouquets and share them with family and friends.
Marilyn attended the Falmouth Emmaus Lutheran Church with her grandmother, Emilie Lund, and was confirmed and married there. Later, she was a member of Falmouth Congregational Church and North Windham Union Church. She taught Bible school, worked at bean suppers and sorted clothes for the thrift shop.
In October 1948 Marilyn was wed to her true love, the boy (almost) next door, H. Melvin Brink. They built a house near her parents and raised their children there until 1966, when they moved to Standish. Mel and Marilyn have lived happily in their lakeside home, always filling it with family and guests and oh so many "strays". A wonderful cook, Marilyn prepared delicious meals meant for six but often stretched to sixteen! She always made another place at the table, another bed upstairs and another spot in her heart for those in need.
Always the hostess with the mostest, Marilyn created beautiful parties. From decorations to music to the perfect cake, she had a talent for making birthdays and anniversaries, graduations and baby showers extravagant and exquisite events. She enjoyed swimming and boating, ice skating and playing a fierce game of bridge. Most of all, she loved taking care of her family.
Marilyn will be dearly missed by her husband of 62 years, Harry Melvin Brink of Standish, her son and daughter-in-law, Clifton and Ellen Brink also of Standish, her daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Robert W. Fickett III of South Paris and her four grandchildren, Marilyn Pearl and Jacob Merrill Brink, Amanda Lynn and Andrew John-Edgar Fickett.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service, Sunday July 18th at 11:00am at the Second Congregational Church in Norway with Rev. Leslie Foley officiating. Interment will follow at the Blanchard Cemetery in Falmouth. Arrangements are under the care of Oxford Hills Funeral Services, 1037 Main St, Rte 26, Oxford, ME.
