She was born, the youngest of four children, in Pedigo, Texas to Thomas and Corrie Lea Lumpkin. She married James Addcox in 1940 after her graduation from Thomas Jefferson High School. She was a young wife during WWII, holding down the home front while her husband fought in the South Pacific.

Fay was employed as a bookkeeper and teller at J.M. Imhoff and Sons and Port Arthur Savings and Loan. She and James reared three children, Janet , Diane, and Jim in Port Arthur. During the last few years of his career, James was sent to Korea as a consultant from Gulf Oil to assist in the building of a refinery for the Korean Oil Company.

After retirement, for more than twenty years James and Fay enjoyed being "Winter Texans" in the Rio Grande Valley. Fay also remained close with her sisters and brother and enjoyed annual family fishing trips. She and James also enjoyed annual family vacations with their children and grandchildren, including several trips to Hawaii. These trips often included hours with board and card games and "Meemaw" was always sought after as a partner for these games due to her quick wit and competitive nature.
