Ms. Rita (Lukes) Brunner, 80, of Newport departed this life on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Harris Hospital in Newport.

She was born on December 18, 1929 in Germany, the daughter of Lewis and Calla Lukes.

She was a Paralegal Graduate from University of Maryland. Ms. Brunner spent most of her career as a secretary. She was on the committee for Muslim Christian Cooperation in Washington D.C. where she served as Executive Secretary. She served as secretary for the Apollo States Delegation in United Nations, New York; and was the grant coordinator for Maryland Historical. Ms. Brunner enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, line dancing, quilting, and staining glass. She was of the Christian faith.

She was preceded in death by husband, Herbert Brunner and her parents, Lewis and Calla Lukes; and one brother, Roger Lukes.

Ms. Brunner leaves behind one son, Lewis Brunner and wife Shawn of Tuckerman; five grandchildren, Lewis Brunner, Jr. of California, Christopher Brunner of Campbell Station, Sarah Brunner, Dylan Brunner, and Megan Brunner all of Tuckerman; and two great grandchildren, Ryder Brunner of Campbell Station and Avery Brunner of California.

Funeral services were held at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel.
