Martha L. Carr
Martha L. Luke Carr, 82 of Columbus, formerly of Danville, Ill., died at 3:58 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2008, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. She was born in Danville, Ill., November 2, 1926, the daughter of the late Robert John and Marie Smith Luke.
Mrs. Carr earned a bachelor's degree at Illinois State University in Normal/Bloomington, Ill., and a master's degree in education at Governor State University in University Park, Ill. She was a retired sixth through eighth grade English teacher in Matteson School District No. 162 in Park Forrest, Ill. She was a member of Illinois State Teachers Association.
Mrs. Carr enjoyed volunteering as a Book Buddy and also was active at Bartholomew County Senior Center where she enjoyed playing bridge. She also enjoyed reading and watching sports.
There will be a memorial service conducted at a later date in Danville, Ill.
Interment of the urn will be at Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville. Calling will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, December 12, at Myers-Reed Chapel, 3729 25th St.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Bartholomew County Senior Center Building Fund or Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Mrs. Carr is survived by a daughter, Kellene (Steven) Chapman of Columbus; a son, Corey (Beth) Carr, also of Columbus; six grandchildren, Christina and Sarah Stearns, Morgan and Nathan Chapman and Reagan and Evan Carr, all of Columbus; two great-grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she also was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Bob Luke; and two sisters; Peggy Schlenker and Jodie Depke.
