Thomas Sampson Luke
Thomas Sampson Luke of Portland, father of Thomas C. Luke, prominent Portland florist died yesterday afternoon at his residence, 580 Ninth street, Mr. Luke had been ill for some time with pneumonia. His death was the result of heart disease coming it was thought, as the result of his weak condition. He was 65 years of age. Funeral services for Mr. Luke will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Finley parlors. Dr. Charles MacCaughey, pastor of Centenary-Wilbur Methodist Episcopal church, will preach the service. Mr. Luke was born October 25, 1859, in Cornwall, England. He was a pioneer miner in Nevada, California and Alaska, coming to this part of the country at the age of 19. He mine din California until 1890, when he came to Portland. He pioneered in Alaska during the gold rush and became a friend of Alaska pioneer steamship men. Mr. Luke was married to Nellie E. Nettle in 1868. Upon returning to Portland he became affiliated in business with M. C. Mace of this city. He was prominent in fraternal circles. Mr. Luke is survived by his widow, his daughter, Mrs. F. A. Beyers of Seattle, and two sons, Thomas C. Luke of Portland and Edwin H. Luke of Seattle. (The Orgeonian, 25 Mar 1925)

LUKE - The funeral servcies for the late Thomas S. Luke of 580 East 9th St., will be held today (Thursday), at 2:30 P.M., at Finley's Mortuary, Montgomery at 5th. Friends invited. Commitment, under the auspices of Orient lodge, I. O. O. F., at Mount Scott cemetery. (The Oregonian, 26 Mar 1925)
