Auguste was the 2nd child born to Gottlieb & Christiane Zeh Elbel. Her parents first settled in New Braunfels, Comal Co., TX and after the 1st child was born Gottlieb decided he wanted a more settling life and wanted to own his own land and so the little family moved to Spring Branch, Comal Co.,TX where he bought land and built a little log cabin. Auguste was born in this log cabin. In the early years Indians would shoot arrows at the cabin to keep the family on the inside while they would steal cows and sometimes horses. As the years past this little cabin housed two adults and 7 children. When Auguste was 9 years old her mother died after giving birth to child #8 (this child died 10 months later). Five years later her father married a widow with four children. Four more children were born to this union and her father built a new home. On December 25, 1877 Auguste married Louis Luersen and they moved to Hunter, Comal Co., TX. The little old cabin is still standing but has had dramatic changes. The current owner added to the old structure and it is now a B&B, but being currently rented as an apartment and the owner renovated the 'new' home for himself. The Elbel family cemetery is on this land and the current owner graciously maintains the cemetery for the Elbel descendants.
