OBITUARY --- Departed this life, on the 17th inst., Mrs. Margaret Ludy, consort of Mr. S. P. Ludy, of this place.
The deceased, at her death, was 42 years old, being born in Montgomery Co.; Ohio, on the 13th day of May, 1820. She was a resident of this County 19 years.
Twenty years ago she united with the German Reform Church, and after her removal to Winchester, connected herself with the Presbyterian church. In her connection with both these branches of the church, she uniformly maintained the character of a christian.
Her life has been such as to commend the religion of her Saviour. All who knew her, loved and esteemed her. The excellency of the christian religion appeared, at all times, in her character.
She was noted for her unobtrusive piety, her humility, her meekness, and, also, for her love of Christ and His cause. Her whole trust was in Jesus.
Her life, for the last few years, has been one of great bodily weakness and suffering. She lived to suffer, as is often the case with the people of God. In the midst of her sufferings, she was patient and resigned -- was never heard to murmur on account of the way her heavenly Father was leading her. It is true, that, during her last acute pains of body, she longed for release from this clay tabernacle, yet she was willing to wait and suffer on until her appointed time, if it was the will of God. Death had no terrors for her. She felt that her peace was made, and she had only to depart, and be forever with the Lord.
Sometime previous to her last illness she had a presentiment that her time here was short, and with this impression on her mind, she sought after brighter and clearer windows of her acceptance with God, for a more intimate communion with and conformity to Christ. She was known frequently to retire for secret prayer, and diligently to use all the means calculated to prepare her for the change that she expected soon awaited her. Death has put a period to all of her sufferings. And all beyond, to her, is, we believe, life, joy and immortality.
