Tessie Faye Duke, was born on February 26, 1931 in Maud, Oklahoma to Sam and Clara (Templar) Lucy, passed away on August 30, 2014 at the age of 83, at Timberwood Nursing Home in Livingston, Texas after a long battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Tessie enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed. Tessie spent her lifetime caring for others; beginning a nursing career at the Carrie Tingley Hospital in Truth or Consequences, N.M. in 1947. She continued this care throughout her career in Hobbs, New Mexico at Lea General Hospital, and Llano Estacado Hospital before moving to Texas in 1976. While in Texas she took a different route by providing child care in Roundrock, Texas before moving back to New Mexico where she worked at the nursing home providing daily nursing care to residents. Moving back to Texas in 1991, she took on the care for her mother-in-law, Bertha Smith. Even though she had no official degree, as a nurse she supervised and taught many nursing students during hands on instructional learning.

The most precious award she earned according to her was the "Best Granny Ever" award from her grandchildren. She was a very patient person and found humor in all situations. Tessie was well known for her exquisite embroidery and sewing skills. She also loved to grow flowers and vegetable gardens. She spent time bird watching, collecting salt and pepper shakers.

Those left to cherish her memories are her loving husband of 46 years, J.W. Duke; sons, Clifton Clary of Hobbs N.M., Bobby Clary of Romayor, Texas; daughter, Diann (Charles) Brown of Cotulla, Texas; granddaughters, Brenda (Bryan) Davis of Portland, Texas, Amanda (Tye) Snowden of Cotulla, Texas; grandson, Dylan Clary of Midlothian, Texas; great –grandchildren, Brayden and Breckyn Davis; Also, four step children, Billy, Bobby, David and Lonnie Duke; sisters, Chesta Cowan of Bowie, Texas, Willie Mae Reeder of Oklahoma city, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Pat Feuerbacher; brother-in-law, Paul Smith; numerous nieces and nephews.
