LUCKEY, Harold M. of 412 San Gabriel, Rockdale. Age 69. Died 5/22/1977 (Sunday) at his home of an apparent heart attack. Services were held (Tuesday) at the Phillips & Luckey Chapel. Burial in the IOOF Cemetery. Rev. Gene Steger, pastor of St.John's United Methodist Church, officiated. He was a former Rockdale mayor and bank president. By proclamation issued by Mayor N.E. Alford, town business firms closed Tuesday during the funeral hour in respect for the longtime Rockdale business and civic personality.
He was BORN 9/14/1907, son of M/M. P.E. Luckey and spent most of his adult life in the banking profession. President of Rockdale State Bank from 1962, when he succeeded the late T.B. Ryan, until May 1 of 1977 when he became chairman of the board. First employed as an assistant cashier in 1931 and was vice-president of the bank from 1959-62. Active in state-wide banking affairs and served the Texas Banking Asso. for many years as a member of its board of directors. He served 8 years as mayor of Rockdale ending in 1974. At time of death he was vice-president of Rockdale, Sandow & Southern Railroad, vice-president of Phillips & Luckey Life Insurance Co. and had headed the local Salvation Army chapter for many years. Very active in local organizations.
