Elvira Sofia Gurule

Antonito resident Elvira Sofia Gurule, 92, passed away at home, under Hospice Care, surrounded by her loving family. Elvira was born August 18, 1920, in Conejos, Colorado, the daughter of Frank Lucero and Ramoncita Vigil Lucero. Elvira was the most loving mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother, sister and friend to all. She enjoyed fishing , cooking, playing games and going gambling with her family, playing cards, telling jokes, listening to music, she was so talented she taught herself to play the banjo, accordion, harmonica, guitar and piano. Survivors include her daughters, Martha Valdez of Alamosa,CO; Lorraine ( Bobby) Cummings of La Jara, CO; sons, Robert (Fidencia) Gurule of Conejos, CO; Michael (Rose) Vigil of La Jara, CO; sister, Consuelo Lucero of Conejos, CO, Lifetime Companion Albert Pineda of Antonito, CO; also Betty Lucero special friend who provided home care services for many years; grandchildren Edward Valdez, Joe Valdez, Luis Valdez, Robert Gurule Jr. , Michael Gurule; Jessica Cummings, Barbara Cummings, Nicole Valdez, Andrew Valdez, Esmeralda Vigil, Damian Valdez, Alysia Ruybal, Mikayla Valdez, Victoria Ruybal, Vince Valdez, Lou Valdez Jr., great-grandchildren Itzia Hernandez, Marissa Chacon, Axton Valdez, Michael Gurule Jr., great-great grandchild Dominique Valdez. Elvira is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Elvira was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Ramoncita Lucero, her husband Joe Gurule, two brothers Luis and Elipio Lucero, two sisters Elena Vigil and Estella Mondragon, one daughter Lorraine Gurule and one granddaughter LaNay Ann Gurule. A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, April 1, 2013, at 7:00 PM at the Romero Funeral Home in Antonito, another Rosary will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Conejos. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at 10:00 AM also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. Interment will follow at the La Jara Cemetery in La Jara. Viewing and Visitation will be held on Monday and Tuesday from 1-5PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Antonito who is in care of the arrangements.
