Abel Lucero, our special husband, father, grandfather, and friend was called home by the Lord on Tuesday, February 13, 2001. Abel is survived by his wife, Jessie Lucero; children, Susan Lucero, Daniel Lucero and his wife, Eleanor, Thomas Lucero, Joanne Darke and her husband, David, Steve Lucero and companion, Geri Crandall, step-children, Randy Schlegel and his wife, Kelly and Troy Schlegel and his wife, Christine, sisters, Mary Ann Maes, Filia Perea and her husband, Nicholas, Virginia Romero and her husband, Margarito, Connie Nunez, Isabel Torres and her husband, Orlando and 14 beautiful grandchildren. Abel was preceded in death by his parents, Tomas and Mercedes Lucero. Abel retired from Sandia Laboratories in 1985. Abel was a member of the Escobosa Riders Club which he truly loved as he was a man who enjoyed his trail rides on his beautiful horse named Blanca and accompanied by his faithful dog, Chino. As many know, Abel was a wonderful cook. Abel loved cooking for the many people who loved him and he truly enjoyed the great outdoors. Abel, you will be missed intensely by those whose lives you touched. Valla con Dios, Querido. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 16, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 1800 Martha NE, with Father Domingo Gumpal, Celebrant. Pallbearers will be Daniel Lucero, Justin Davis, Albert Pohl, and Joe Alderete. Honorary pallbearers will be Collin Sanchez and Gabriel Lucero.
