Death: Sep. 5, 2010

Florian Lucero, 82, born August 4, 1928, passed away peacefully on Sept. 5, 2010. He was a life long resident of San Juan, a member of San Miguel del Vado Parish and was a Cursillista. He was a rancher and enjoyed tending to his cows and spending time at his ranch with his extended family. One of his favorite pastimes was going to the casino with his beloved wife Nancy. He thoroughly enjoyed socializing and as a staunch Republican, he relished in discussing and debating politics.

He served in the U. S. Army. He fought in three significant battles in the Korean Conflict and was a Purple Heart recipient.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Nancy; daughter Shirley Herrera; son Ronald; granddaughters Yvette Montaņo and Susan Ortiz; grandsons Lester and Lawrence Montaņo and Steven Ortiz; parents Epifanio and Elicia Lucero; brother Agapito Lucero; son-in-law Eugene Moore.

He is survived by his children Lorraine Lucero, Florian Jr. and Velma Lucero, Annabelle Moore, Sandra and Alen Valencia, Ken and Julia Lucero, Johnny Herrera, Angela Lucero and special grandson Eric Lucero whom he helped raise; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sisters Andrea Montoya, Ruth and Paul Godinez, Corinne and Frank Lopez, and Eddie and Ann Montoya; in-laws Cecilia and Phil Montoya, Jesus and Datha Aguilar, Feliz and Benny Gallegos, Flora and Ray Gallegos, Bea Montoya, Norella and William Ortiz, Pauline and Gabino Baca, Rose and Everett Baros.

A rosary will be recited Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. at San Miguel Del Vado Church. Mass of Christian burial will be at San Miguel Del Vado Church on Sept. 9 at 11 am. Interment will follow at the San Juan Cemetery. Pallbearers: Daniel, Aaron, Jonathan, Kyle, Esperanza, Geno, Kayla and Krystal. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He will lie in state at the Rogers Chapel on Wednesday at 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. where family and friends may call.
