Abelina Q. Lucero, age 102, a longtime resident of Las Vegas and former resident of Variadero, N.M.., passed away Sept. 25, 2009, at Alta Vista Regional Hospital.
She was born in Variadero, N.M., on Sept. 10, 1907, to the late Juan Quintana and Delfinia Lucero-Quintana.
She was united in marriage in Variadero to the late Cruz Lucero on June 2, 1930. Cruz Lucero went to meet the Lord on July 4, 1979.
She was at Vida Encantada Nursing Home for almost five years.
Abelina, was a lifetime Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas and also of La Sagrada Familia of Variadero.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Juan and Delfinia Quintana; son: Natividad Lucero; daughter: Celestina Lucero; son-in-law: Jimmy Archuleta; daughter-in-laws: Bertha Lucero, and Josie Lucero; numerous: grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her four sons: Rubel Lucero of Windsor, Colo.; Bernabe Lucero and wife Viola of Denver; Celestino Lucero of Rio Rancho, N.M.; Abel Lucero and wife Connie of Las Vegas; daughters: Connie Martinez and husband Matias Jr. , Celia Archuleta and companion Lester Haddan both of Las Vegas; sister-in-laws: Mary Quintana, Mary Guerrero both of Denver; and Balbina Quintana of Las Vegas; brother-in-law: Josefre Lucero of Denver; brother: John Molina of Cuba, N.M.; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Abelina had five generations of family.
Rosary devotional services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas with Father C. John Brasher as celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery in Variadero, N.M., with the following serving as casket bearers: Norman Archuleta, Marvin Martinez, Gregory Lucero, Clarence Lucero, Timothy Lucero, and Steven Lucero. Serving as honorary bearers; rest of grandchildren , great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
