Cristobal Lucero, age 91, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, N.M. passed away Monday, June 22, 2009 at his home.
He was born on March 4, 1918, to the late Jose Carlos Lucero and Teodorita Sedillo Lucero.
He was united in marriage on May 2, 1942, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas to Helen Lucero.
He owned and operated the University Dry Cleaners from 1954 to 1980. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Camp near Espaņola at the age of 15.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Jose Carlos and Teodorita Lucero; his wife: Helen Lucero on Dec. 31, 2008; son-in-law: James Cantalupo.
He is survived by his daughters: Diana Gregory and husband Michael Gregory Sr. of Trementina, N.M.; JoAnn Rafaelita Cantalupo of Chicago, Ill.; Deborah Ricker and friend Rudy Velasquez of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren: Christopher Gregory wife Kelly of Lamar, Mo.; Mike Gregory, Jr. and Leah of Pendaries, N.M.; Ami Ricker of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Christine Schopp of Oak Brook, Illinois; Jeffrey Cantalupo of Chicago; great-grandchildren: Cody and Jacquelyn Gregory of Lamar, Mo.; Grant, Samuel and Gabriel Gregory all of Pendaries, N.M.; Thea, Nicholas and Isabella Schopp all of Oak Brook, Ill.; sister: Mary Anaya of Hayward, Calif.; special friends: Manuel and Mary Tarango, Thelma Young, Ferminia Morales and family and Mary Warsaw all of Las Vegas, N.M.; numerous beloved nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Rosary services will be conducted on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, N.M. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 9 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant. Interment will follow at the St. Anthony's Cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers: Mike Gregory Sr., Christopher Gregory, Mike Gregory Jr., Jeffrey Cantalupo, Rudy Velasquez, Manuel Tarango and Richard Martinez. Serving as honorary bearers will be: Cody Gregory, Jacquelin Gregory, Grant Gregory, Samuel Gregory, Gabriel Gregory, Nicholas Schopp, Isabella Schopp, Thea Schopp, and Ami Helen Ricker.
He will lie in state at the Rogers Chapel on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:p.m. where family and friends may call.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to: Midland School Foundation, Autism Research, P.O. Box 5026, North Branch, N.J., 08876, in honor of Ami Helen Ricker and in memory of Cristobal Lucero.
