Judy was born Dec. 9, 1929, in Denver, Colo., to Earl and Vera (Jussell) Luce. Judy moved with her parents and two older brothers, Donald and Andy, to Branson, Mo., in 1933. There her family grew with another brother, James, and two sisters, Alice and Hilda.
Because times were hard, Judy wanted to help her family. Being tall for her age, she got a job as a waitress at the age of 13. Judy also helped with the USO during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary in Branson.
Judy married Leslie Deckard on Friday, June 13, 1947, in Arkansas. The couple moved to McAllen, Texas, where their first son, Dan Earl, was born. In 1949, having moved back to Branson, their first daughter, Vickie Arlene, was born.
In 1953, Judy and Leslie moved their family to Winfield where Leslie went to work for the Binney & Smith Crayola factory where he worked for 33 years before his retirement in 1986.
Their small family continued to grow with another son, Kenneth Wayne, born in 1955 and another daughter, Cheryl Lynn, born in 1958. They moved the family to Oxford in 1961 and were blessed with another daughter, Cecile Mae, in 1962.
Judy worked for Rex's Café for many years before going to work for TG&Y Stores. In 1966, Judy went to work for Gott Corporation as a foamer and then worked in quality control until her retirement in 1987.
Judy and Leslie spent many years taking care of various family members who needed help. In 2003 they came home to Oxford to take care of Leslie's health problems. In 2004 Leslie lost his own battle with cancer. Judy continued to help care for family members in need until her own physical needs took precedence.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Leslie Deckard, in 2004; son, Dan Earl Deckard; three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include her daughters, Vickie Starlin, and husband, Marvin, Oxford, Cheryl Neal, and husband, Jesse, Arkansas City, and Cecile Hershberger, and husband, Ron, Newton; her son, Kenneth Deckard, of the home; sister, Alice Hilton, Phoenix, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
