SOUTH BEND - Rosalie Baumgartner gently passed from this life into her heavenly home on March 25, 2013, from Hospice House, South Bend.
Rosalie was born in Macon, MO, to William Riley and Anna Melissa (O'Connor) Lucas. While secretary to the President of Seely Posturepedic Mattress in Chicago, IL, she met her future husband of 59 years, Alden Baumgartner. They were married on November 13, 1954, at St. Bride's Church in Chicago, IL. Their union produced 4 children, Diane (Brian) Carlson, Iris (Phil) Bergt, Melissa (Ted) Manier and Kevin (Shelly) Baumgartner. Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents, 12 brothers and sisters, and her granddaughter, Sandra Marie Carlson. She is survived by brothers, Dick and Jack Lucas; her children and their spouses; her 11 grandchildren (Stephanie, Stacey and Steven Carlson; Andrew and Grace Bergt; Edward, Timothy and Miranda Manier; and Rachael, Lydia, and Adam Baumgartner); and many nieces and nephews. Rosalie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and a woman of deep and sustaining faith. Her devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary was a constant source of inspiration and help to her family. Rosalie was always ready to pray a Rosary for family and friends. When she said she would pray for someone, they knew she would do just that ~ without question, and from her heart. A lifelong seamstress, Rosalie gifted her family, especially her grandchildren, with any number of blankets, pillows, curtains, doll clothes, mending, and crocheting. Her gentle, kind, and generous spirit lifted up any and all who spent time with her. Life became beautiful and pure in her presence. Visitation will take place today, March 27th, at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, from 4-8 p.m., with a Rosary at 5:30 p.m., also today. A funeral service will take place at St. Anthony's Church in South Bend at 1 pm on March 28th, with Father David Ruppert officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN.
