Progress Enterprise Wednesday, February 13, 1946 Page 8

Fred J. Loye, a former Lunenburg boy, passed away suddenly in Halifax on February 6th, after a few days illness. He had just recently been demobilized from the Canadian Army where he served with the R.C.A.M.C. for four and one-half years and was presently a druggist in the employ of Kinley's Limited at Halifax.

Fred was born in Lunenburg on April 26th, 1901, son of the late Captain Edwin S. Loye and Mrs. Jessie Loye. He attended school here and then was employed with the Kinley Drug Stores in Lunenburg, Bridgewater and Halifax. He afterwards went to the United States where he worked in pharmacy and passed the states boards of Florida and Massachusetts as a Registered Druggist. He went into business for himself in a suburb of Boston. This he discontinued and returning to Canada joined the Canadian Army. In the course of his army duties he made over forty Atlantic crossings, being a dispenser on the overseas transports.

Fred was well known and a favorite with the young people here. They, with his relatives and friends deeply regret his early passing. He is survived by his wife, the former Muriel Oxner of Chester Basin and two daughters, Janet and Linda; also his mother, Mrs. Jessie Loye and a sister, Mrs. J. Earle Morash, both residing in Chester. His home address was 12 Vienna Street, Halifax.

Funeral services were held in Halifax and the body was brought to Chester for burial on Saturday afternoon.

With thanks to Liz Burbidge.

Staff Sergeant Frederick James Loye is commemorated on Page 587 of Canada's Second World War Book of Remembrance.
