Chico Enterprise-Record, Monday, July 11, 1949: "Amanda Fimple Taken by Death. Amanda Fimple, 90, died Saturday afternoon at the Taylor Rest Home on West Fifth Street.
"She was born of pioneer parents who crossed the plains in a covered wagon, near Durham and received her schooling in a little school house 2-1/2 miles from there and has spent her entire life in that vicinity.
"In 1879 [sic] she was married to Thomas Van Fimple, a rancher of Durham who preceded her in death in 1914. She had been in poor health for the past five years.
"She is survived by one daughter, Lottie Colm of Durham and 17 nieces and nephews.
"Funeral services will be held in the Huddleston Funeral Chapel Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. A. M. Grant officiating. Interment will be in the Chico Cemetery."
Chico Enterprise-Record, Tuesday, Jul 12, 1949: "Fimple Funeral Is Conducted Today. Funeral services for Amanda Fimple, pioneer resident of Durham who died at the Taylor Rest Home Saturday evening, were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Huddleston Funeral Chapel with Rev. M. A. Grant officiating. Mrs. William Stephens sang "Shadows" and "In the Garden," accompanied on the chapel organ by Marie Erwin. Friends who served as casket-bearers were Jerry Russell, Wes Sitton, Wally Wall, Jack Wright, Bert Strong and Charles Schab. Interment was in the IOOF section of the Chico cemetery."
