Life of Service End's with Death of Mrs. Holt
COALVILLE Oct 16 - (Special) Mrs. Parthenai An Lowe Holt died at her home in Coalville Sunday after a short lines.
Mrs. Holt was the daughter of John Lowe, pioneer boot and shoemaker of Salt Lake City and Ann Prettet Lowe, born July 13 1851 at Council Bluffs, Pottawatamie County, Iowa.
The parents of Mrs. Holt became converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1845 and crossed the plains with an ox team, arriving in Salt Lake City in 1852.
Two of Mrs. Holt's brother's, John and Frederick were among the early settlers of Hoytsville, where their mother and other members of the family lived and died.
After the death of her oldest sister, Ellen Lowe Holt, Parthenia was married to LeRoy Holt, her brother-in-law, July 29, 1868 and asumed the duties of mother to her sister's' four children, which obligations she well and faithfully performed.
In 1894, she took the family of six children left orphans by her stepdaughter, Isabella Holt Mlls and cared for them as a real mother.
Mrs. Holt died at Hoystville in 1910 and two years afterward Mrs. Holt removed to Coalveille where she has since resided.
Her life has been sent in the service of others; although having no children of her own and has reared two families of children, besides devoting much time to public activities.
She was chosen president of the Hoystville Y.L.M.I.A. August 22, 1877 and was released December of 20 of the same year and was called to preside over the Relief Society of the ward a position she faithfully filled until July 21, 1901. A period of about 2 years.
