Karen Lee Downs, age 61, passed away of natural causes on Feb. 15, 2010.
Karen was born Aug. 31, 1948, to Oliver and Elaine Lowe in Caldwell.
Karen married Dennis, the love of her life, on Sept. 18, 1964. This union produced an only child, Dion. Karen loved children and was the ultimate babysitter for numerous families in the Caldwell area. The Lord placed two special kids in her life - Mike and Kim Cashman. They were loved as her own and although grown and in their 20s, she still had contact with them. Mike preceded Karen in death almost a year to the day of Karen's passing. Karen collected dolls and anything with strawberries on it. Her favorite entertainer was Elvis, and she collected his music, movies and other memorabilia. She had a great sense of humor and it was there until her last day. Speaking of Elvis, she once told Dennis, "He does more for me dead than you do alive." Her wit was surpassed by no one.
Karen is survived by her husband Dennis, and son Dion; her mother Elaine, a sister and brother in-law Debbie and John Gulley of Caldwell, sister and brother in-law Gay and Jerry Payne of Parma, and brother David Lowe of Parma, and many nephews and nieces.
Karen was preceded in death by her father Oliver Lowe and both sets of grandparents. Karen will be deeply missed by her immediate family members and extended family, the Cashmans - Hap, Pam and Kim.
A void will be in our lives until we join her in eternity.
A graveside service will be held for Karen at 1:30 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at Canyon Hill Cemetery in Caldwell, services will be performed by Earl Lowen.
