Margaret "Margot" (Thom) Lovejoy age 97 died peacefully on December 3, 2014. She was born in Antigo, WI on May 4, 1917, the eldest child of Katharine (Bissell), and Walter Thom. Orphaned at an early age she and her sisters were raised by her aunt Mary (Thom) and uncle Jack Mylrea in Rhinelander, WI. She graduated from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY in 1939 and then studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fountainbleau, France and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, PA. She married Robert Lovejoy in June 1941 in Wausau, WI. He was a lawyer in Janesville. He died in 1988. During her early married life, Margot was active in community service – the YWCA, Scouting, the League of Women Voters, PTA, and the First Congregational Church. She was a founding member of the Blackhawk Curling Club and also enjoyed golf and cross country skiing. When her children were young, Margot painted and drew pictures for them. Margot and Robert were seasoned travelers and visited almost every continent; after he died, she continued to travel abroad. She researched and wrote three books of family history, which she distributed, to family and friends. Margot is survived by four children; son in law; sister; twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lovejoy; a daughter, Alexandra Waeffler; her sister, Julia Murray; and a grandson.
