Mrs. Elizabeth Lossing Buck was the daughter of John Lossing (1768-1813) and Miriam Dorland (1767-1824). She was the oldest of their three children who survived infancy.

Her sister Ann (FG 74751424) married Joseph Flagler (FG 153898860), who owned a farm in the Town of LaGrange, Dutchess County.

Her brother Benson J. Lossing (FG 61135260) became a noted historian and author who illustrated many of his earlier works with his own wood engravings. He was one of the charter trustees of Vassar College.

On January 9, 1823, Elizabeth married Bartholomew Buck. Their only child, John Lossing Buck, was born on November 30, 1823. Bartholomew died around 1830-1831, and Elizabeth and her son went to live with her sister Ann and brother-in-law Joseph Flagler. She would live there for over 30 years until after her sister died. Her son John would buy Joseph Flagler's farm.

According to the local death register, Elizabeth Lossing Buck died on March 15, from general decline due to a fractured hip. The records of the Freedom Plains Presbyterian Church state that she died at age 86 and was buried in the church cemetery on March 18, 1888.

Elizabeth's father, John Lossing, was the son of Nicholas Lossing and Christina Woolweaver. The Lossing family descended from Pieter Pieterse Lassing (FG 80541547), who emigrated from Holland in 1659. (There are several spelling variations of the last name, including Lassing, Lassingh, Lassen and Lossing).

Elizabeth's mother, Miriam Dorland, was the daughter of Samuel Dorland and Anna Esmond. John and Miriam were married at Nine Partners on January 23, 1793.
