Zephyrhills, Florida - Gloria Jean Lord Chase Austin, 56, died Thursday, May 13, 2004, at East Pasco Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Rockland, Maine, May 9, 1948, she was the daughter of Lawrence Hall and Margaret Mills Lord. She was educated in local schools, graduating from Rockland High School in 1966. After graduation Mrs. Austin attended cosmetology school in Augusta.
Mrs. Austin worked with her parents in their operation of the former Rockland Bowling Center, where she expressed her mechanical ability by helping her father repair the machines. Her son said that in earlier years, she took pleasure in helping her Dad with just about any project he had going. She was later employed as a secretary with Redlons Plumbing and Heating Supply and Van Baalen Pacific. For the past four years, Mrs. Austin managed a mobile home park with her husband, Jack, in Florida
An ardent sports enthusiast, Mrs. Austin enjoyed volunteering with city league baseball teams and was involved in any sports program her son participated in. She was an avid baseball and NASCAR fan of whom her family remembered that she wanted the room to be quiet while watching any NASCAR race on television. Her favorite driver was Mark Martin in car #6.
Pre-deceased by her first husband, Leo Andrew Chase in 1989, Mrs. Austin is survived by her husband John Franklin Austin of Zephyrhills FL; her father, Lawrence H. Lord of Zephyrhills and Rockland; one son, Kenneth Lawrence Chase and his fiancÚ Melissa Ashton of Appleton; one adopted son, Troy Lee Davis of FL; three step-daughters, Debi Cook of Kansas City, KS, Donna Willbanks, Dee Scareorough both of Zephyrhills, FL; on sister Jane Wenisch and her husband Bill of Norway, ME; and fourteen grandchildren, Joshua, Dylan, Troy III, Casey, Chris, Nikita, Stephanie, Jennifer, Jessica, Terrianne, Park, Eric, Sara, and Megan.
A graveside service will be held at Glen Cove Cemetery, Warrenton Avenue, Rockport. (Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins on-line)
