Obituary- Crawfordsville Journal Review- Thursday, May 28, 1942- Joseph H. Long, second son of Wilburn and Jane Haines Long, was born in Wise Co., VA., on March 22, 1862, passed away May 18, 1942, at 6 p.m. at his home in Ladoga. At the time of his death, he was 80 years, 1 month, and 18 days of age. He was united in marriage to Lucy Conkright on March 26, 1884, who preceded him in death March 11, 1907. To this union were born ten children, Samuel Long of Lansing, Mich.; Wilburn, Harry, Isom, and Harvey Long of Ladoga; Mary Moore of Daleville; Dorothy Weir of Linnsburg; Lilly Gifford of Richmond, IN. and Mae Hall of Detroit, Mich., all of these being present. Alice Kirby, a daughter, preceded him in death May 26, 1914. He was united in marriage to Alice Speery, June 14, 1924, who has faithfully cared for him during his long illness. He leaves to mourn his departure the widow; nine children; 56 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; two sisters and a host of other relatives and friends. He was a retired minister, member, and elder of the Ladoga Christian Church. He devoted most of his life to this work. We feel he has left a loyal Christian example. He will be sadly missed by the widow, family and friends. A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is stilled, A place is vacant in our home which never can be filled. God in his wisdom has recalled the one his love has given, and though the body slumbers here, the soul is safe in heaven.
