|Birth: ||Sep. 22, 1826|
|Death: ||Oct. 21, 1862|
Sarah was nine (9) years of age when her father moved the family to Winnebago Co. in 1836 where she grew to womanhood on his farm, located along the Rock River, just south of Rockford city proper in then-New Milford Township.
Her sister, Mary (Long) Jewell, died in 1849 after the birth of two children with her husband, Joseph Jewell. Two years later, Sarah married Joseph and eventually they had four children of their own.
A veteran's grave investigator found her tombstone in Oct of 1935 and he recorded the inscription as: Sarah B. Jewell, wife of Joseph Jewell, Oct. 21, 1862.
In 1986, Sarah's tombstone and seven (7) others were removed from the cemetery and put on display at Midway Village in Rockford. Township officials later regained possession of the markers and they currently (2011) reside in a township garage.
