LOGGING ACCIDENT KILLS LOCAL MAN
Richard Thomas Long, 26, McMinnville, was killed shortly before noon Saturday while unloading his logging truck at a log dump near the Lafayette locks, according to Deputy Coroner Glen Macy Jr.
He was struck by a log which rolled off the top of his load as he removed the choker, Macy reported.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Macy's memorial chapel. Interment was at Evergreen Memorial park with committal under the direction of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Pallbearers were Don Coates, Charles Miller, John Robinson, Paul Potter, Stan Jones and George Anderson.
Long was a graduate of McMinnville high school and a veteran of the last world war.
He was born at Gopher Valley on December 6, 1921. He was married to Dorothy Ellen Barker, who survives, at Vancouver, Wn., on February 29, 1948. Also surviving are a brother, Donald, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Long, all of McMinnville.
