It is believed Sarah was born at Lost Nation, Clinton Co., IA in Sharon Twp.
Sarah's first husband was William Dirlam. They were married in 1871. Their children were Letty Ann Dirlam b 3/1/1874 d 8/4/1874, John Thomas 7/27/1875 - 2/8/1952, Mary Lucinda 2/22/1878 - 7/16/1970, James William 10/21/1880 - 8/31/1950, Phillip E 5/22/1883 - 12/20/1957, and Michael Sr. Dirlam 12/8/1885 - .
After Wm died Sarah married Henry Nye in 1891. They had one son, Henry Jr 7/17/1892 - 5/3/1961.
When Mr. Nye died she married Ephraim Henthorn in 1900.
Sarah loved to fish and cook them. One time she went to the Mississippi River where she managed to land a 75 pound catfish. She did not want to live in Atlantic when Wm set up a practice there. So she stayed in the country where she hunted for herbs and items for Wm to use in his eclectic medicine and also grew other items in their garden.
Her children did not like Mr. Nye who showed favoritism toward his own son. He would bring candy for young Henry and nothing fotpr the rest of the children. Lore has it that one day he was working in the well when the older boys came and took the ladder. They would not putbit back until he promised to treat them nicer. After that things were a little better.
